Grand Rapids Chapter
Remember that old Lotto slogan; “You Gotta Play To Win”?
Your Grand Rapids CSI Chapter Awards Committee took that to heart this past year, rolled up our sleeves and filled out the numerous application forms for Awards that we thought our committees qualified for with all their hard work.
I am very proud to inform our membership that we have been recognized by both CSI Institute and the Great Lakes Region levels.
Below is text from Brandilyn Fry, Great Lakes Regional Awards Chair, as she presented the following Awards at
GREAT LAKES REGIONAL CONFERENCE – August 10, 2007 in Detroit, MI
On behalf of myself, fellow Institute Director, Lane Beougher, and the entire Great Lakes Region Awards Committee, we would like to welcome you to the 2007 Great Lakes Region Honors and Awards Gala this evening.
Each year we take the time to recognize the talent, achievements and notable contributions to the construction industry that support the mission of CSI.
Since CSI is a voluntary organization, many members generously contribute their time and effort. The awards program is the principle method for saying ‘thank you’ to those members. Gracious and grateful recognition of extraordinary effort in the form of awards encourage continuing contributions. An awards program intensifies membership interest, gains new members, develops new talent, and stimulates interest in CSI’s growth.
Of course, we can’t forget to thank those who are there to support our great volunteers. Please give a round of applause to those spouse’s, significant others, and children who put up with each of our volunteers when they are tired from those late nights writing newsletter articles, developing Chapter programs, and many other activities that make CSI the great organization that it is.
As many of you know, there are three levels to the CSI awards program – Institute, Region, and Chapter. Tonight we are here to recognize outstanding achievements by members of the Great Lakes Region.
First, we would like to recognize members and chapters who have received awards at the Institute level; June 23, 2007 in Baltimore, MD
The Special Publication Commendation is presented to an individual, team, firm, organization, chapter, or region for a non-continuing publication that is of interest to or related to CSI. Special publications include, but are not limited to: rosters, directories, posters, calendars, operating guides, videos, and non-CSI publications.
This year, the Grand Rapids Chapter Construction and Design Professionals’ Expo Team consisting of
Charlie Appleby, CSI, CCPR
Bill Smith, CSI, CDT,
Jim McDonald, CSI, CDT
Brian Stephens, CSI, CDT
and
Jennifer McCormick, CSI, CDT
was selected for continuing the design competition that was developed for the Expo Poster Contest. This poster contest encourages local graphic arts and visual communications students to get involved with architecture and construction, and for the integration of that high quality artistry into construction industry communications promoting the 2006 expo. Congratulations!
The Outstanding Chapter Commendation is presented to a chapter that meets designated core and elective criteria. As chapters earn commendations, they reach the following millstones: five years – bronze level, ten years – silver level, twenty years – gold level, thirty years – platinum level.
This year the Indianapolis Chapter achieved the bronze level. Other chapters to receive the Outstanding Chapter Commendation this year are: Akron-Canton, Columbus, and Grand Rapids. Congratulations to each of these Chapters!
And for the Great Lakes Regional Awards:
The Institute Director’s Award is presented by the Institute Directors at their discretion.
The first Director’s award is presented to Gary Beimers, FCSI, CDT. Gary contributes to the Grand Rapids’ Chapter newsletter, Rapid River Ramblings, in a column called, “MasterFormat 2004 Number Pick’n.” Here, Gary struggles with the every-day predicaments that specification writers find themselves in: finding the correct location for special products or work results for things such as swimsuit water extractors, Christmas trees, and teenage deterrent systems.
