Technical Update
By Ed Avink CSI, CCS, Grand Rapids Chapter Technical Chair
Why “Project Resource Manual”?
The new version of the Manual of Practice isn’t called the Manual of
Practice. The document that begins rolling off presses this summer is called the
Project Resource Manual - CSI Manual of Practice, or PRM for short.
“The Editorial Advisory Board considered many names for the new
manual,” wrote James M. Robertson, FCSI, CCS, chair of the MOP Editorial
Advisory Board, in a recent e-mail. “We felt strongly that it is still the
‘CSI Manual of Practice,’ but it is also more than that.”
The PRM contains important resource and education information related to
the CSI Certification Program, he explained. It has resources for owners, contractors,
and facility managers, and anyone else interested in the full life cycle
of a facility.
“We say in the introduction, ‘The project is the process of planning, design,
documentation, and management of a facility. The completed project is a
facility, which is a constructed entity or space designed to perform a certain
function.’
“The new manual is focused on all aspects of projects and contains
resources related to completing successful projects, so after much discussion
the advisory board recommended the new title.”
